What is polystyrene (PS)?

Polystyrene (PS) is a versatile plastic that can be rigid or foamed. General purpose PS is clear, hard, brittle, and has a relatively low melting point. Typical applications include protective packaging, containers, lids, cups, and bottles, and trays.

What is polypropylene (PP)?

Polypropylene (PP) is a plastic with good chemical resistance, is strong, and has a high melting point making it good for hot-fill liquids. PP is found in flexible and rigid packaging to fibers and large molded parts for automotive and consumer products.

What is polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE)?

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE) is a clear, tough plastic with good gas and moisture barrier properties. Commonly used in soft drink bottles and many injection molded consumer product containers. Other applications include strapping and both food and non-food containers. Cleaned, recycled PET flakes and pellet are in great demand for spinning fiber for carpet yarns, producing fiberfill and geo-textiles.

What is polylactic acid (PLA)?

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a clear bio-plastic formed from plant starch, primarily from corn feedstock, used only for cold food and beverages. PLA is not readily recyclable, but is compostable in commercial facilities where available.
